A NEW CODE,

We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a now code of meteorological signals which comes into force at Hongkong on New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present in use at Shanghai, and wil be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball at Kowloon Point for the information of masters of vessels leaving the port. They do not neces sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows:-*

A cone point upwards indicates a typhoon to the North of the Colony.

A cone point upwards and drum below in dicates a typhoon to the North-East of the Colony,

A drum indicates a typhoon to the East of the Cafony.

indicates a typheon to the South-East of the A cone point downwards and drum below

Colony.

A cone point downwards indicates a typhoun to the South of the Colony,

A cone point downwards and ball below indicates a typhoon to the South-West of the Colony.
