It is none too easy a task to be a good woman of business and a good housewife as well. Mrs. Hands is both. "To look after the shop is a pleasure," was her cheery summary of her feeling on the matter, and if she were asked to give up the business, she would assuredly regard the proposal with no favour. Dr. Williams' pink pills are what enable her to be so busy and so happy: and few who see her would think that, she was once a terrible sufferer.
Talking to the representative of n local news- -paper at her home (12 Aberfair-crescent, Merthyr Vale, Wales), Mrs. Hands, who is 27 years old, said:
"Six years since I was laid low with a terrible attack of rheumatism; three years later I had enteric fever, which left me prostrated with dropsy and heart disease. But thanks to Dr Williams' pink pills for pale people I am now a strong and healthy woman.
"Many of my friends have expressed surprise at my recovery. 1 need not tell you how terrible the pains of rheumatism are. A slight attack gives people a lot to grumble about, but

NOTICE.
During the past year a considerable amount of attention has been directed to pathological research, combined with bacteriological tests where necessary.
The question of the rarity of enteric fever amongst the Chinese is more apparent than real, The habit of the natives in leaving for their homes when prodromal signs of disease assert themselves has, in my opinion, much to do with the apparent rarity of the disease in Hongkong.

The total number of post-mortem examina- tions held has diminished by 4fo, compared with the Return of 1902. This decrease is accounted for mainly by the absence of an epidemic of cholera during 1903, and the arrangements made by the Government recently to have necropsies performed on cases of un- certified death in the Kowloon district.

The following conclusions seem warranted: 1. The bubonic type of the disease prevailed in frequency throughout the epidemic. 2. The site of the buboes were subject to great varia. tion. 3. The most frequent site for the buboe was the femoral region, with practically no pre- ference for either side of the body. 4. Axiliary, inguinal and cervical buboes come next in consecutive frequency. 5. The septicemic disease was prevalent throughout the whole year. 6. The pneumonic type was prevalent to any extent only during the height of the epid emic. 7. All types of the disease were propor tionately most prevalent during the height of
the epidemic, .., during the month of May. So far as age is concerned, the post-mortem records show a similar condition of affairs to that met with in rooz.
TUBERCULOSIS.
Although an enormous amount of research has been prosecuted in regard to the interpreta tion of the lesions caused by the tubercle bacillus, it may be said that as yet the majority of the tissue manifestations of tubercular dis- case are wrapt in mystery. Speculation is rife as to the modes of infection, the proclivity of certain animal tissues to the disease, the ap parent immunity of others and the apparent erratic spread of the infective process.
It would appear from an examination of the most recent researches, however, that at last some light is to be thrown upon that most diffi- cult problem, namely, the diffusion of the tubercle bacillus in the system.
Since my arrival in the Colony, my attention has been directed to this subject, namely, the spread of the tubercle bacillus throughout the body, Excellent facilities have been available, at the public mortuary, where a considerable number of cases of the various forms of tuber- culosis is constantly met with.
