WHERE NOISE IS KING.
WHAT A BOILERMAKER ENDURES. No human being endures so much in the way of deafening, ear-shattering noise as a Boilermaker. The whole place in which he works is filled with thunderous sound as of artillery-firing. Along its huge length fat boiler lie in stocks like giant iron canoes in process of building; while men, whose skins glisten in the light and heat, rush about with pincers holding red-hot rivets, which they thrust through the plates to have their pro. truding noses flattened by heavy hammers.
