A despatch dated Tokio-17th inst., to the Tientsio, gives the Japanese News' Agents following information concerning the attack on Port Arthur on the 13th inst
The Japanese fleet which took part in the attack on Port Arthur from the tith to the 16th inst, numbered 3: vessels, viz., 6 first class battleships, 2 ironclad cruisers, 4 cruisers, 12 torpedo-boat destroyers and 8 torpedo-boats.
It is stated in Japanese official circles that
most of the credit for the action at Port Arthur lays with Captains Taneda and Adachi, who laid the mines upon which the enemy's ships struck.
A SPECTATOR'S CURIOUS STORY. An balian who was a specta or of a part of the attack on the Russian feet at Port Arthur has arrived here. He state. that the move. ments both of the Russian and Ja anese ships were to all appearance remarkably quiet and steady. He had no idea that any extraordinary effort was being made on either site, or that
anything sensational was happen, and it was not all he reached Chelob and heard the news Admiral Makarol's deato and the sinking of the Petropavlovsk that he knew the significance of what he had seen.
He did not see the l'etropavlovsk go down and did not know of it, though he knew the Russians had susunned a reverse. What the fly impressed him was the calmn manner in winch the Japanese sups moved up to their stations, & ed a few shots and retired agam, as though practising at a target. He does not thinx the japanese themselves knew how much tajary they had done

At the Fulway station in the West Gate there are barely 20,0.o bigs of rice in store, and in Sin Sheng Tze over 10,000 bags of rice and flour. RUSSIAN TROOPS AT VINKOW AND LIAO YANG,
From a Chinchow letter it is stated that, ac- cording to the report of une who has arrived from Harbin, there are merely 1,000 Russian troops there, a very insignificant number, anci that the men hants are exping quiet. Commercially the developine of Korea begins with 1876, when two ports, Gensan and rusan, were, upon the insistence of Japan, opened to trade with that country only. in 1882 Admiral Shufedi, of the United States avy, visited Kurea and secured a treaty of inendship between the United States and Aorta by which American vessels were given access to its realy purts and the safety of American vessels and citizens assured. This was followed by treaties with Germany aud
Of the cotton goods imported in 1932, Bri- tish shirting formed the largest single iter, hiounting to $800,000; British and Ameri cao sheetings, $250,000; Japanese sheetings $350,00 Japanese piece goods and Japanese yarn for use in manufacturing cotton cloths, $800,00. Kurca, like China, is now draw- ing considerable quantities of cotton yarn from Japan, and considerable supplies of cotton manufactures. Great progress is being made by Japan in the manufacture of cotton, and in addition to supplying cotton cloths to China and Korea in large quantities, it's now supp y ng the cotton yarn which are used in house. boid manufacture as well as in certam of the cotton mills which exist, and are proving quite successful.
The foreign commerce is carried on through the treaty port of Chemulpo, Fusan, Wonsan, Chinampo, Mokpo, Kuusan, Masampo ami songchin. Chemulpo which is located on the western coast of Korea, about midway from its southermost point to the northern boundary, his by far the largest commerce. Its im ports in 1902 were reported at $1,250,0 0, out of a tutal of $1,929,000. The ex- perts or Chemulpo, however, are very much less than Ipose of other parts, being
$45,000 in 19,2 out of a total of $1,830,000. Its
pre-eminence over the other treaty ports as a point of importation is due largely to the fact that it is of self a considerable city, with a comparatively large foreign population, and is In direct railway communication with the capital of Korea, Seoul, which is only thirty- five miles distant.
The total value of the imports and exports of Korea from 1884 to 19oz is as follows:
