view, and, as some people think, may possibly- become the baile-ground between Japan and Russia, it is interesting to note that the subjects of various powers have considerable interests there. We have read lately of the Russian Lamber Concession, which has been, the cause of some irritation between Russia, Korea, and Japan, but British înterests lie in the direction of mining. The first mining concession granted in Koren was through the instrumentality of the American Minister, and was granted somo years since. The capital of the American Company is 1,000,000 shares of 10 dollars each, oriequal to 2,000,000 sterling, and these shares are being dealt in America at about 14 dollars. This company, some

Account of which was given by bir. S. J. Speak In a paper which we published some time since ("M.J." 1903, p. 243), out of profits has erected 202 head of stamps, and has lately paid its first dividend of 60 cents on the 1,000,000 shares, that dividend amounting to £125,000. By the assistance of the British Minister a British con. cession was obtained, the title of which was completed in June 19. This concession is owned by the British & Kutean Corporation. Upon this concession great developments have taken place within the last two years, and during the last eighteen months or 10 reserves worth £200,000 are said to have been opened out. All the surf ce works have been com- pleted, and on October 1 next the production of bullion will commence, the only department. awaiting completion being the cyanide works. The average value of the stone already raised and opened up is about 46. per ton, Both the English and American con- cessions contain some hundreds of square miles, an that there is plenty of room for development. These two concessions are in the same part of Korea. The climate is excel- lent. There is good water and fuel, and la- bour is cheap, varying from, 7id a day for sur- face men, from rod, to is: for first-class miners, and a 3d. parday is the highest for artisans, such as carpenters, builders, blacksmiths, &c. Th: Americans, who are the only ones in full swing, are mining and treating their ore, including development work, wear and tear of machinery, and, indeed' inclusive of all costs except management and administration, at 58 per ton.

Concessions have also been granted to the French and Ger- mana, the farmer very recently, but nei her of these concessions as yet reached the develop ment stage Japan has also btained mining concessions in Korea, but these alto have unt yet been opened up to any extent Mining

have not attained their high position in the confidence of the people by bald assertions and boasting advertisements. They are obliged to win it by doing actually what is claimed for them. That this remedy deserves its reputation is conceded. It is palatable as honey and contains the nutritive and curative properties of Pure Cod Liver Oil, combined with the Comp. Syrup of 11ypophosphites. Extracts of Malt and Wild Cherry. Nothing has such a record of success in Scrofula, Anemia, Nervous Debility, Influenza, Throat and Lung Troubles, and all emaciating com- plaints and disorders, that tend to undermine the foundations of strength and vigour. Its use helps to show life's brighter side. Dr. W. H. B. Aikins, of Canada, says: "I am pleased to state that the results from using it bave been uniformly satisfactory," You can take it with the assurance of getting well. It is a Preparation brought up-to-date and effective froin the first dose. It never disappoints. At all chemists and A. S. Watson & Co., Limited,
