Since the arrival of the new Gover. nor Wang Chi Chua, funds were collected for exterminating the rebels, but after a month in Wuchen, over two hundred of his soldiers deserted as the climate did not agree with them, so he has not decided upon a mode of procedure. Owing to these causes the rebels became so bold that they attacked the city of Shi-un and occupied it. It is reported that the fes desperados there succeeded in starting great uprising.
