The Coronation Celebrations. To-morrow is Coronation Day the day when Hongkong unites with her sister. Colonics in thanksgiving and rejoicing, the day when thoughts turn to the smoky city and the ceremony in the grand old abbey at Westminster. It is an event that has been anticipated for many months, and its. realisation should be the more enthusiastic now that His Majesty has recovered from the serious illness which necessitated a postponement from the date originally fixed. In Hongkong, our scheme of celebrations had been maturing and all was in readiness for the occasion when the wires announced with awful suddenness that the Coronation was postponed inde: A GOOD TAOTAI-It is reported that Tsen finitely owing to the indisposition of the Futai is to be removed to Kuangsi. Whatever King The Colony was bewildered. Aadvantage this may be to the Empire it is a meeting of the Executive and Legislative matter of sincere regret to all friends of Shansi, Councils was hastily summoned, and a cable and H. E. On the day set. apart for the Coronation, a thanksgiving service in St. John's Cathedral was turned into one of intercession, and a shadow of gloom was noticeable throughout the Colony As the days passed by, brighter news was, fashed beneath the seas, and at length the home authorities definitely decided to höld the Coronation on August the 9th. Meanwhile, we in Hongkong, have carried out several items of our Coronation pro- gramine, and to-morrow's celebration will bring it to a close. The success of the festivities depends almost entirely on the weather, and unless there is a decided change from what it is at the time of writing, there is no reason for disbelieving that Hongkong will rise to the occasion and worthily celebrate, for the first time in its history, the Coronation of its Sovereign. It is gratifying to note that preparations for both were put to death by the "slicing process se community. illuminating the city are progressing rapidly; and that many of the ships in port are bentoringch'ih, on the 19th ultimo in the yamên of the prefect of Changièfu, Liu Lu-sze, the on contributing a share to the rejoicings.
