Tacoma (Wash.), May 25th. ́ ́| Eleven Japanese steamship companies have pooled their interests forming a shipping trust which will aim to control the steamship services between Japanese and other Oriental ports. The combine was formed last month at a meeting held at Osaka. It has seventy
steamers, representing a lesnage of 120,000 tors, with a number of large steamers being built. It includes all the important japanese navigation companies, excepting two which
operate to Puget Sound and San Francisco.
Oriental advices received to-day state that the decision of the vessel owners to combine was hastened by the formation of Morgan's Atlantic shipping trust. The Japanese ship. owners are desirous of maintaining Japan's- merchant fleet as the greatest feet in American
waters. Feasing that the Atlantic combine
would gradually seek to control the shipping to Asiatic ports, it was thought best to prepare for competition by organizing a trust on similar Lines,
