The Truth: Libel Case ended in a fiasco! Tho dury were unable to agree, though it is. understood there was a considerable majority on one side. Seeing the enormous amount of money to say nothing of time—which has been expended over the case, it certainly seems na though our system of civil justice requires amendment. It may be true that a unanimous verdict is not too great a safeguard against the possible condemnation of an innocent man on trial for his life or liberty, but in civil matters concerning which business men have daily to make decisions affecting their own pockets, it, might surely be arranged that a 3/4 verdict should always suffice.
