SANDAKAN 23rd April.. When the sleamer Sandakan arrived hert from Hongkong she had a suspected case of cholera on board. She proceeded to Tawso for the purpose of loading timber, and on ber return here on the 18th instant reported, one death on leaving Sebattik and six between there and Bahalle these are the ligures given to me unofficially. She came in with the last corpse on board and was ordered, outside to dump it. Since then six, new cases have de veloped on board with one death. She is now lying in quarantine (?) only a few cables lengths from the shore. Mr. Klamberg is on board of her adik passenger and is unable to land,

GUN ACCIDENT.

On the 18th instant Mr. Goldsmith of the North Borneo Trading Company, accidentally. had a gun discharge an expanding iuta: the upper part of his right arm. He was sent from Tawao to Labat: Dan and there had the arm amputated, but died after the operation.

THE RAILWAY. The Government still seem as infatuated with their useless railway as ever, and it is rumoured that they are going to chatter a German steamer to carry visitors to the open. ing of it

ROADS.

We are now groaning under road rates. If- the roads were really made and decently kept up we should not complain of this, but as it is there are far too few and those in an abominable state.
