OUR LONDON LETTER.
From our own Correspondent)
LONDON, March 7th.
THE LATEST CRAZE We are always embarking on some new theory of disease here in London, the babit of looking into physiological problems, or invent-
ing them so to speak on the spur of the moment is quite s popular phase of high society. Sometimes it is tuberculosis, sometimes smallpox, anon we worry with diptherin, then turn ourselves unsated to the consideration of what provokes increased insanity among the lower orders. The latest development of this craze, for except in the bands of qualified medical scientists, it is nothing more than
the extended craze, turns upon)
ravages of "cancat, which have ftainly marked the last few years. A doctor having advangad: the theory that the spread of this curse may be traced to the use of German yeast in bakeries. qualifies his remarks with the footnote that discovery was really made by another medico fifty years ago
CNN The reply of the bakers is in the nature of the lie direct. They assert that though Gers man yeast (which really is of Dutch extraction) is undoubtedly more liable to go wrong than some other Continental and English yeasts, yet as a matter of fact, could not from that cause, be a disseminator of disease, for this simple reason.
