TEER DINNER
NTRY CO
This most successful function was held at Thomas Grill Rooms on Saturday night, when in large number of men sat down to dance under the presidency of Calour Sergt. McKenzie of "D." Co. Captain Forbes was the chief guest of the evening, the dinner being in honour of himself and Licut, Skinner, who unfortunately was absent from the Colony, Major Chapman, Acting-Commandant, hon: —oured the Co, with his presence; other guests
being Lieat. Gimkame ("E" Co.), and Sergt. Moore, RWF Instructor to the Corps. Dinner over, song, speech and reminiscence were in great evidence. The usual patriotic toasts were drunk with musical honours. The guests also received this honour, Captain' Forbes especially receiving Highland Honours.
Major Chapman proved himself a raconteur of the first order, and cansed, great merriment by his happy jokes.
VICE ADMIRAL SIR ARCHIBALD DOUGLAS who has been appointed to the command of the Squadron on the North

THE CHINESE COMMISSION, it is an. pounced, have decided that a tax of $500 should be imposed upon each Chinese immi. grant into British Columbia. This is regarded as altogether prohibitive and likely to
to stop the tide of immigration. A minority report recom mends that the tax be increased to $300, and.. if this does not prove satisfactory, that it should afterwards; be raised to $500,
which would mean exclusion. The report dealing with Japanese immigation is not yet ready.

suffice it to say that the whole play rests on the love of a Roman patrician for a Christian girl. Mr. Henry Dallas as Marcus Superbus, a no- bloman of Rome, most assuredly impersonated the difficult character with great precision, and it is doubtful whether he has ever been seen by a Hongkang audience to better advantage. Mr. Henry Dallas made Mercia, the Christian maiden, a very fine part indeed.
