The Princess of Wales had yesterday at the Shire Show a narrow escape of what might have been a serious accident. A prize stallion alarmed by the band and the shouting, broke lease, and galloped furiously for the exit close to which Her Royal Highness, was standing preparatory to entering her carriage. A shout of parning reached the princesa just in time, and she drew back a yard or two as the ter rifed animal, thundered past her. Much enthusiasm was evinced by the spectators.
The deferred sentences in the Liverpool Bank cases were delivered on Monday, the occasion being marked by a second passage, ofarms between Mr. Justice Bigham, and Goudie's Counsel, Mr. Marshall Hall, K. Co who of inte, has been somewhat unfortunate in his remarks to the Bench. Ultimately how. ever, the eminent barrister's apok
apologies and explanation were accented gmriously. Burge "received two years' hard labour and ten years pénal servitude, the sentences to be con- current; and Goudie ten years penal servitude. A movement is, on foor to obtain: a reduction of Burge's term apparently on the ground that he was newly married at the time of arrest. Otherwise it is difficult not to feel that any sentiment in the case might be more, fitly.
