We regret to learn of the death on 9th ult, at Fayremeade, Maidenhead, of Mr. Archer Hewlett, formerly of the British Consular service in China. He was appointed a student interpreter in in. 1858, and on arrival at Hong kong was employed in the office of the Super intendency of Trade, going on to Ningpo the following year and to Foochow in 1890.
