Banks-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have been negotiated to a small extent at $600. ex the dividend of £2 ($31.57) on the 17th instant, and close with further sellers at the rate. The London quotation is £63 ex dividend. Nationals are quiet but steady at Sa74.
Marine Insurances-Unions have advanced and are enquired for at $350. China Traders are slightly weaker, and have probable sellers at Narjamot, Khan, 1.P.C. $56. Cantons have been bought at $155 and 5*974.

JOAQUIN MILLER'S PLEA FOR CHINESE IMMIGRATION.
It may surprise those who favour Chinero exclusion for the sake of the Pacific-coast interest to hear that the Pacific-coast people' want the Chinese, and are hoping, that the exclusion bars will be let down. Joaquin Miller, who has lived on the Pacific coast for fifty years, and has visited almost every country in the coast States, declares in an article in The North American Review that all the people of that region, except the labour unions. of the cities, are a unit in favour of Chinese immigration; and the city labourers, he declares, are in a very small minority.
