News received by Shanghai mandarins from Hisian states that numerous anti-foreign pla cards; in the name of the "Independence Society of Shen-Kan and Hukuang provinces " have been recently posted on all the gates of that city, calling upon "all revolutionary so icies and all who have the independence and welfare of the Empire at heart to join in a national armed rising in the month of February against all foreigners found within the Empire. The principal members of this new "Independence Society are believed to be literati who despair of holding office owing to the new regulations requiring future candidates for official posts to pass through the newly in- augurated colleges and schools of Western Learning.-N. ISSUED ON 1ST JANUARY.
The new King Edward stamps were all over London on the 1st inst.,; says a mail paper there was an enthusiastic demand and a ready supply. Many people got up early and went considerably out of their way to make purchases of the new penny and halfpenny stamps.
