WING to the insufficiency of accommoda-
tion in the present building and the in- creasing demand for admission, it has been found necessary to extend the wings of the main building and to enlarge the Chinese de partment by an additional storey with two wings. The estimated cost will amount to over $15,000. To cover these expenses we Appeal to the liberality of all friends of Education. The establishment has been in existence for the last 25 years and is open to all classes. Much of the clerical work of the city is carried on by its past pupils. As this is the first time we have applied for assistance we expect a generous response. The names of our most liberal Benefactors will bo inscribed upon marble tablets, as a lasting testimony of their generosity. THE CHRISTIAN BROTHERS. Hongkong, 22nd November, 1901.

• QUARREL. DENIED.
With reference to numerous and conflicting reports which have been current of late, the foll- owing information, states Reuter's Amsterdam Correspondent, has been obtained from a source which is believed to be worthy of con- fidence: Prior to Queen Wilhelmina's illness, slightly heated discussion took place between her Majesty and the Prince at a dinner at the Chateau of Loo. The Queen, annoyed at some inattention on the part of her husband, used a somewhat harsh word, and the Prince, losing his temper, insulted the Queen. Lieutenant Van | Tets, Her Majesty's Aide de Camp, is stated to have then intervened and to have reproached the Prince with the impropriety of his conduct. A challenge enstied, and

Telegrams on the 6th ult., state that accord ing to information derived from a trustworthy
Prince of the Netherlands is not maintained, Her Majesty has, since 30th November been once more dining with the Prince. During the Queen's illness the Prince visited her only on rare occasions, but on the other hand, complete repose was prescribed for the Royal patient.
The Central News says that the following telegram was received on the 5th ult. from Queen Wilhelmina's Court Chamberlain, in reply to inquiries as to the truth of the state- ments telegraphed on the previous day from Amsterdam The statements mentioned are
SO VILE AND UNTRUE
that the Dutch papers have never taken any notice of them, I cannot understand how
foreign newspapers get these untrue reports and
how these lies are invented.--Van der Staal.".
The Hague Correspondent of Temps writes that he has the highest authority for stating that the recent reports as to a quarrel bè. tween Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Henry are without foundation. Her Majesty is de- votedly attached to the Prince, and their domestic relations are a model of what such a marriage should be. All the recent scandalous reports have their
ORIGIN IN SOCIALIST AND REPUBLICAN.
'PAPERS
which dare not attack the Queen owing to her popularity, and thereforaspread calumnies about the Prince. It is utterly untrue, thecorrespondent continues, that Prince Henry has incurred enormous debts. His elder brother has been somewhat extravagant, but he himself is not pestered by creditors. He has always shown himself gentle and affectionate towards the Queen, and it was at her request, joined to that. of her doctors, who advised for her absolute quietness, that he has recently absented him- self on various hunting expeditions.
