LONDON, November 1st. Foreign ports have declared Liverpool plague infected. It is officially stated that four servants at the Central Hotel, Glasgow, are suffering from plague, one of whom has since died.

That the residents, of Hongkong readily" respond to all genuine calls for charitable pur poses was again demonstrated by the large number who visited the “Al Fresco Fête" held last evening, in the grounds of the Roman Catholic Cathedral, for the benefit of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The splendid work performed by this society is so well known that it needs no special comment on For some ten years the present occasion, this féte has been held annually with in- creasing success, the attendance last even- ing being the largest by far, some. three thousand or more visiting the grounds. during the evening. Every dicket holder received a prize of some kind, some costly and others trivial but amasing, but it was evident among the majority that had there been no prizes the object for which the fate was attendance. Besides the prizes given to ticket given would alone have commanded their
holders there were same three hundred special prizes, given by the Italian sisters, which were raffled for, and which must have brought a considerable increase to the funds of the fête. The grounds were prettily illuminated by a
