AN INDICTMENT OF
MISSIONARIES.
BY A CHINAMAN.
A writer in the Tung Wan Hu Pro makes a very bitter allack upon missionaries and their methods. He prefaces his arguments with the remark that ever since the Ming Dynasty, tens of thousands of people have been engaged in the propagation of Christianity in China, and milions of money have been spent in the same enterprise. As a result, we are

verts, but for every one who has accepted the doctrine there may be found a thousand who violently oppose it. The writer also claims that the adherents of the new religion are almost invariably either people with an insuffi- cent supply of food and clothing, or stupid and uninstructed women and children; while the self-respecting Chinese scholar, can hardly endure a reference to it without expressing his
scorn.
Then proceeding on the assumption, (which all know is not a perfectly true one.) that other imported religions, such as Buddhist and Mohammedan, have nourished for centuries in Chim without persecution, he goes on to en- quire why Christianity alone should thus pro- voke the bitter wrath of the Chinese people, and answers his own question with the usual stock arguments. Ta the first place he tells us that the missionaries thrust their religious opinions into notice in an offensive manner never assumed by the devotees of other re- gions. They bring their sacred books with them to all places where people are accustomed to congregate, and talk until their auditors are weary. If any and ventures to talk back in terms of ridicule; they bring accusations against the local ficials for failure to protect.ihem. Should the affair be a little more serious they call for military aid Thus there naturally springs up a lasting enmity between rife niis- sionaries and the people.

The writer concludes with the observation that he has had no time to examine into the details of faith and practice of the Christians and the difference between the two branches, Roman Catholic and Protestant; but that he throws out these few remarks in the hope that Europeans may in future conduct their religious propaganda along somewhat different lines. THERAPION No. 1, in a few days only, removes all discharges from the urinary organs, effectually, superseding injections, the use of which does irreparable harm by laying the foundation of stricture and other serious dis- eases. In dysentery, piles, irritation of the lower bowel, cough, bronchitis, asthma, and some of the more trying complaints of this kind, it will be found astonishingly efficacious, affording prompt relief where other well-tried remedies have been powerless.
THERAPION No. 2, for impurity of the blood, scurvy, pimples, spots, blotches, pains and swellings of the joints, secondary symp toms, disease of the bones, sore throat, and all diseases for which it has been too much a fashion to employ mercury, sarsaparilla, &c, to the destruction of the sufferer's teeth and ruin of health.
