THE FROUBLE IN SARAWAK.

The special telegram published in last night's issue, announcing the departure of Kajah BROOKE up the Trusan River of a | punitive expedition with a force of a thousand nion, although of a somewhat startling character, need surprise nobody, for to those acquainted with Bornean affairs it was well known that sooner or later something of the sort would be fendered absolutely necessary. It must not for a moment be supposed of Sarawak, Are that the inhabitants in rebellion, or that the rule of the Rajah is distasteful, for such is far from being the i fact.

It will doubtless be remembercil by many of our readers that some while ago the Rajah extended his authority to the districts of Linbang and Trusan. These districts may by roughly defined as handed by the water sheds of the two rivers from which they take their name. The rivers are the highways of Borneo, hence cach river talley is a district, and folks speak of the Limlung, Tras or Kinabatangan districts as the case may be,
