CONCERT AT ST. PATRICK'S

CLUB.

(Contributed).

The concert given in the Hall of St. Patrick's Club on Saturday last, for the benefit of the Club, was an encouraging attempt, and every well-wisher present must have gone ‘home entirely satisfied with the proceedings, which beginning at 9 p.m., lasted till a little after 11.

The audience consisted mainly of men from the Army and Navy, and the impromptu pro gramate, sough prepared as the members of the Club and their friends stepped in, went off very smoothly.

Representatives of various sections of the Red and Blue Coats turned up from the audience (for the stage was open to all comers) to contribute to the general merriment, which was enjoyed immensely by some of the "tars? Several of the Singers were repeatedly ap plauded and encored, specially when a favoù- THE inhabitants of D'Aguilar Street are all rite tune with a chorus was struck and bewailing their hard fate. Two very pleasant hours were brought to a close by Mr. Forbes distributing the prizes to the winners, wishing the Club prosperity and greater success yet in future concerts, and finally by giving well-deserved praise to the pianist, Corp!. Bright, R.M..., who showed a

considerable amount of skill at the instrument..

LOCAL AND GENERAL.

We believe the existence of St. Patrick's Club is very little known in Hongkong, or it would be more frequented and patronized, The convenience of the site (three minutes from the lower terminus of the tramway), the surroundings, as also the intended im- room, (concerts proving a success) should induce Civilians, Soldiers, Sailors and others, irrespective of creed or nationality, to become members thereof. The Kowloon City Hotel,, in spite of its (at

to be pretty well patronized. We called in there, the other day, and were quite suprised at the neat way it has been altered and decorated. It really reminds one of an old-fashioned English village inn, especially some of the timber and plaster ones to be seen in Shrop- shire, We believe Mr. Woodcock is about to build a bathing stage or pontoon, with dressing rooms etc. This should prove an attraction, during the summer, and it is also a very safe beach for bathing from.

AN inquest, was held at the Magistracy this morning touching the death of a prisoner name Lo Fook, who was undergoing a sentence of three months for larceny. It seems that, thortly after five o'clock on the morning of the 3rd inst the deceassed was being taken along a side walk together with some other prisoners when his foot caught in some piping, and he fell a dis- tance of about 11 feet and severely injured his head. On the 7th inst. the man died, Dr. Bell made a post-mortem examination of the body yesterday, and found that the man had died from hemorrhage on the left side of the bmin, A verdict in accordance with the medical evid ence was returned.
