The two telegrams from our Tientsin Co- respondent, which we issued as an extra this morning, amply bear out our remarks of last night upon the disturbed state of the country around Tientsin. Luwill be seen by the telegrams that the Chinese troops have already come to blows with the Boxers at Jinchow, a town of some importance situated some distance to the southward af Tientsin, Chinese soldiers have been killed, and makes and as the telegram distinctly states that no mention whatever of any casualties amongst the Boxers, we may take it for granted that the troops have got the worst of it and the Boxers are triumphant. The second telegram serves to show that affairs in Tiemsin are by no means so quict as they might be, which fact has been pointed out by our Correspon dent already, Private letters from the Northern Part show that the European inha bitants have been taking due precautions to guard against any outbreak for some time) past, and the local Volunteer Corps has puting, will sail in the middle of April. ina number of drills and generally unde preparations to act upon the defensive should
bccasion arise. Outside help has been forth- coming as well, for by this time the British cruisers Brisk and Herinione will havearrived at Taku and will doubtless have landed men for the protection of the foreigners at Tientsin. Hence, we have little fear of having the news of another Tienkin mas sacre sprung upon us, though we believe that par friends in the Northern Poits may have an unpleasant time during the next few days.
This trouble has been long foreseen, hav ing been brewing for months past, anal we trust that the British Authorities, even though unsupported by the representatives
