showed high Intelligence and application on the part of the scholars and he was specially pleased to see that the 'examiners had reported so favourably on the excellence of the English pronounciation which did great credit to Dr. Wright and the masters (applause).
There were weakness, there must always be same, but in an organisation like that callego possessed these weaknesses had only to Es pointed out and every endeavour would be made to remedy them. He then gave an amusing in- stance of originality on the part of a Chinese scholar and observed that that boy did not get as many marks as he deserved for his origi nality,

Continuing the speaker said that it might interest the public to know that 119 ex pupils from that college had this year secured good positions in Hengkong, there were 21 to be found under the Hongkong Government and from his own personal experience he could speak well of then. He did not know how they would have managed to fill up the great number of needed at the appointments taking over of the new territory had there been no such institution and he could say they were all conducting their duties to the credit of the school at which they I received their education (applause.) would be very interesting if list of ol pupils were kept showing the career of those who had been successful in attaining honour- able positions.
Addressing himself then to the boys, Mr. Lockbart said that he could see that they ha worked hard and he hoped that they had also played hard and gave, first in Chinese and then in English, two old Chinese proverbs saying "H_ you don't work when you are young what are to do when you are old " and Learning is more precious than gold." He was very pleased to see that Mr. Woodcock and been so succesul in organising cricket matches, but he would like to see Athletics more encourageil and said there was no reason why they should not excel in them, and gave as an example a Chinese hoy named Wai On who was in Hongkong but was sent to school at Cheltenham and became the Champion Athlete of all the British schools. He would liko to see them all Wai On's and hoped, they would einukde his skill. He could not see why they should not have a football club, they were going on their holidays and he advised them to spend a portion of theirting in considering how they could best improve and extend. athletics. Mr. Lockhart the referred to the resignations of Mr. Look and Dr. Tung, the latter of whom he had known for over 3 years and who had dene yeoman's service for the school. The speaker knew that he was only echoing the wishes of those present when, he trusted that he would enjoy all luck success in his new walk in life. Mr. 1.ockhart concluded his speech by expressing the hope that they would enjoy the holidays, they had so well deserved.

I am also, Sir, grateful to you for your reference to my rela tions with the Governing Body. I have been always treated with great consideration by its members, and have endeavoured to discharge. my duties faithfully.
