WEST POINT.

Mr. C.-T. Robinson proved himself, as he has done in the past, a versatile comadian. He sang five songs, and recited "Rudyard Kipling's poom, "The Absent Minded Beggar," in a clever manner, the poem was called for again, after which the chat passed fatind and pay-pay-pay" was answered to the tune of $50, which is now added to the Patriotic Fund. Mr. R. Soames deserves praise. for assisting in organizing, the concert, and decorating the pretty little theatre. Great credit tis due to the splendid hospitality of those who so liberally entertained their friends, and shipmates, in this du i port on such an occasion, where. Kmat holidays and enjoyments are rare,

Christmas festivities in connection with the Seamen's Church were held on Christmas Day and were largely attended and much appre clated. After morning prayers in the church a large party of men went out in launches to Little Hongkong, where sports were held. Many amusing contests took place; amongst them being an egg and spoon race in which for lack of spoons, which were found a missing at the last moment, the competitors carried the eggs in their mouths. In consequence of this some mirth provoking accidents occurred. Merchant men and naval men were plated against each other in the friendly rivalry of, a tug of war, in which the former were the victors, as they were afterwards to a tng open to all comers. Sunset found the launches on their way to Kowloon, where a bountiful tea was spread in the Institute after tea, to which about 140 men sat down, the company adjourned to the upper room which had been prettily decomted for the occasion. The centre of interest was the platform where, half hidden by palms and other plants, and prettily decorated stood the big sca-chest which this year has taken the place of the Brig Miss Johnstone, of Fairlea kindly distributed the prizes won in the sports. A concert provided by the inen followed. The sea-chest was opened by the FRICTION between naval and military com.skipper of the "Brig," Miss Mabel Prince, and poured out its cargo of presents for all. Hearty cheers were given for the ladies, for all the werkers, and for the skipper, and the singing of the Doxology brought to a close, what was admitted by all to have been one of the happiest evenings ever spent in the Institute.

CONCERT AT KOWLOON,

A most enjoyable evening was spent by all who went to the Bungalow last night to hear the concert in aid of the Patriotic Fund. The Hon. C. P. Chater, C.M.G. had kindly lent the house for the occasion and the band of the of Col Retallick and officers, was in attendance to play selections during the evening. - Every seat in the house was occupied and many had to stand during the whole performance. The responsible position of Chairman was ably occupied by Col. Retallick.

The Annual 'Tea and meeting, a function of quite a different kind, dok place on Friday A large December 29th, in the Institute number of most kind and willing friends were at work during the afternoon, and when, about. six o'clock, the proceedings began, the lower room presented quite a pleasing appearance. A substantial meat tea was served up, after which a plentiful supply of cigars, provided by good friend, made their appearance and filled. up the interval before, the meeting com menced.

FOOTBALL COMMENTS.

· No football having: taken place this week there is little to comment upon, except to-day's match in aid of the Patriotic Fund. Low is, unfortunately, unable to play, having only just recovered from an attack of fever. This will considerably weaken the Civilians attack.. Noble takes his place. At the last moment, also, we hear that Duncan cannot play, having hurt his leg, and it is also reported that Wilson has announced his intention of not playing. All this is very disheartening to those who are getting up the team as it means a great deal of worry at the last moment and, possibly, defeat.

The Civilian team, as originally constituted, was a very strong one, but, as we have sald before, we thought it would get beaten. Now that all these changes have taken place wo have little doubt that it will; but beatch or not the Army and Navy will have to play all they know to get home and there is no doubt it will be an excellent gane.

We hope it will be heartily, supported by the populace, and that a substantial addition to the Fund will be the result.
