It seems a great pity that a company of Volun teers that has lately been started with a good share of success should, owing to the Want of a little business thoughtfulness, fail to accomplish the useful workfor which it was formed. Several complaints have reached us, that a parade was ordered for a certain time, but afterwards, with out giving due notice, the hour, was altered to an hour earlier. Time is money to a business man and when he finds he is an hour late for the parade he naturally goes away with unkind thoughts.

MIGHT we suggest to the Water Authority that a notice of his intention to cut off the water for several hours at a time would be greatly appre ciated by those householders affected. Yes A. S. WATSON & CO., teday we had no water in the office all day, and newspaper offices need a fair amount for various purposes. Even the much maligned printer's devil washes his hands occasionally, and anyone aware of the amount of dist to be assimilated from a damp proof will sympathise with the poor proof-reader when he is obliged to leave for home with, black grimmy hands on account of the water being cut off. Some journalists even drink the useful fluid, and who can wonder at their bad temper being shown in their writings when forced to go thirsty ?'

The moderate profits we realized on both transaction will come into the half year's accounts to the 31st, December.
