A PEKING despatch of the 14th June, published In the Japan papers, states that a gunpowder magazino belonging to the barracks of the Jinki ammy exploded that morning. More than 300 houses in the vicinity were destroyed, and 30 persons killed.

The President proposed that a Committee composed of the Medical Officer of Health and Director of Public Works be appointed to select sites.
Mr. Osborne, in seconding, said he would like the sites la be in the most populated districts. They had used iron latrines at their Gedowns at Kowloon for the last 12 or 13 years, and they had given every satisfaction, as they are easily cleansed, the only objection being that when they have to be moved, the bottoms have entirely gone.
WE draw attention, says the B. N. 1. Herald of 1st inst., to the reprint of certain Government Notifications, respecting coolies arriving in the Territory, in this issue, and the B. W. B. Gazette. It will be noticed that the Bahalla depût has been re-opened and that in future, all contract labourers over jo in number will be interned there, unless taken from the ship's side direct. We may add that a supply of contract formis approved by the Government, registration tickets, and account cards for coulies, can always be obtained on demand from the Pro- tectorate, so that there will, in future, be no excuse for adopting irregular forms not approved by the Government.
