We are pleased to note from the Reuter's telegram which we publish to-day in another column that Mr. ST. FRANCE AND ITALY.
So France has resolved to approve of the action of Italy in China, and denies hav ing advised the Tsung-li Yamcn to refuse the demand for the concession in San Man Bay. Is this denial the result of the support accorded to Italy by Grent Britain, or is it spontaneous on the part of France Italy's entrance into the question of the future of China adds another player in the game of grab which is being cautiously played by the Powers, and complicates the question of spheres of influence still more. With the different western nations obtaining a foothold in China in this manner it looks as though the grand disruption of the Celestial Empire was drawing bear, and the future depends in great ineasure upon the manner in which the various participators in the game play their respective hands.
► ITALY'S ADVENT IN- CHIÑA, That Italy intends to enter into the China question seriously is shown by the announce ment that Admiral GRENET, in, the cruiser Stromboli, commanding a squadron of six ships, will shortly leave Venice for China. The Stromboli is a vessel of 3475 tons and is leavily armed, her speed being seventeen knots. If the other five vessels are of a
similar type and strength to the Stromboli then, with the Ella and Alasto Poly already Out here, Italy will possess an Asiatic squadron which will have to be taken into account by the other Powers concerned in all questions of an international character

LOCAL AND GENERAL.
THEN. C. D. Newsunderstands that the Shang- hai bandsmen have agreed to return to duty but it will be learnt with very gene regter that this involves the retirement of Commander Vela, who intends to leave Shanghai in about a month's time. It seems that, the roul trouble is racial, and that the bandsmen will not serve under a Spaniard, but they will sign on again under the assistant bandmaster, Mr. Martinazai, who is an Italian; and, no danbt. Mr. Martinazi will be given the chance of showing that he is competent tu succeed Commander Vela. The return of the bandsmen' to duty is dearly bought, for not only did Commander Vela bring and keep the band up to a very high state of efficiency, but he and his talented wife, Mine, Milani-Vela, formerly prime done in Signor Cagli's Opera Troupe, have been most valued members of the com munity, and it will be very difficult to fill the gap they will leave.
