He states that it will prove ruinaus to our trade If we are allowed merely to drift as не are doing at present, but we should like to be shown how the drift is to be arrested and a steady course towards commercial prosperity set. We have every confidence in the power of Lord CHARLES BERESFORD to awaken the people and the Government at home, but
we wish to know what remedies are to

CORRECTION,
We must apologise for a misstatement which occurred in a paragraph in Saturday's frane regarding the grounding of the German flagship Kaiser. Our paragraph made li appear that the Katter struck a rock marked on the Eiltish Admiralty chart No. 1.938 whereas, 19 a matter of fact, she struck ́an uncharted rock when the Chart in question showed tan fathoms. We are exceedingly sony that the misiske occurred, as It would naturally lead one is suppose that the Kafer's accident could have been avoided and such was not the case,

Hongkong continues to advance at her proscat rate of progress we shall scan need larger cars on the Peak Tramway. The present Cars are only allowed to carry forly persons each and the result is that at certain times of the day, or when there happens to be some function being beld in the city which attracts Peak residents, it often happens that several persons are obliged
to wait for the nexi trant owing to the car being fall. An Improvement could be made in the service by running the trams every ten fastead the day, but even this will not suffice for long, we of evay filicen minutes during the busy hours of belleve, and the cars will have to be anlarged,
We congratulate the Tramway Company apon the happy prospect that is opening up before it, Increased traffic means larger dividandı and the shareholders have nothing to complain of la the outlook.

THE construction of the read from Magazine Gap along the face of the bill to the Tramway has been a great boon to Peak residents by open- log up a now walk on xu essy grade. A very pleazan! aitormoon stroll can now be taken by golas from the Tram Station by the old read to Magasine Gap at the back of the hills and returning by the new read over-locking the harbour. These two paika pass through sama of the most beautiful scenty to be found in the Faik district the view from different points being exceedingly fine. It is as well to go pra- vided with an overcoat, however, as the breese at such an elevation is particularly chilly at this time of year and pilgilms trom the lower
levels are apt to find it nipping and penetrating in its attentions. The new road will doubilers
mean foriber, addition to the ranks of the
Peakites, for there is already one building site being prepared and many others aro avaliable. Looking down from the road one is enabled to fully appreciate the odward move of the town up the bill, for numbers of buildings are now lilaw to the east of the Ualan Church where a low months ago nothing bat trai nod follege existed.
