SWAZOW NOTES.
(From our own Correspondent.)
SWATOW, July 4th. It is somewhat late in the day to be writing about Diamand Jubilee Celebrations, but seeing nearly every coast port has related its dotage, there is no reason why Swatow should be left out in the cold. To begin with, the weather on the aand shimo was not what might be called a fine day, but the rain held off and, judging by what both preceded and followed that day, we must consider ourselves fortunate. The only event b-fore the evening's festivities was a sailing rico, for which nearly every glg in the place was entered. The coarse was three times round the barbour buoys, beginning and finishing at the Bish Consul's jetty. It was a hord race, both wind and tide del g unfavourable, and the band. some cup presented by the Jubilee Committee was ever teally won by Mr. Hlorichs" Letter B on time allowance, although the "Black Bess" and Pilot Framla's boať fialshed first almost a dead-head. The latter, however, would have been disqualified. Foals were the order of the day and one boat was very conspicuous in this respect, In the evening about a hundred people sat down to dinner in the tation Club, when the usual foasts were bonou ed. The speeches were not of a very high order, but were commendable for their brevity. Fireworks followed and the company did pot separate it the "wes smal burs ayant the twat." So ended our celebration of the 60th anniversary of Her M‹jesty's reign.
