1.30 pm-General Review at Happy Valley'
In conversation with a representative of the Strafts Times, Captain White, the master of the last vessel, told the story of the disaster. The Ardmore, as already stated, left Bangkok Da the 3rd ult., for Rio, ufa the Air Strals. All went well unili about seven o'clock on the, morning of the roth. The weather was then very squally, the sea was high, and beavy rain wai fasting, almost entirely obscuring the vision. At a quarter past seven, la, the midst of what was apparently an open ses, the vessel struck with great force upon a kläden reef. The con- cussion was alarming, and the capists, an golog below, found that the rocks bad pierced the boll of the vessel, causing a hole through which the water entered at a perilous rate. Fortunately, the injuries were not such as to occasion Imme. diate danger. The vessel remained stack upon the reef, and all hands worked at the pumps. All days long the pumping continued, and the crow were asulated for some time by a number of natives, who put off from an filand called Folio Leat. But they were unable to ramala very long, as the weather became much worse, making their return journey in their small boats a matter of considerable danger. At about eight o'clock in the evening, the vessel floxted clear of the reef, but the master decided, after consultation with the crew, to remain in the vicinity of the reef all night, In the hope of halling a passing ship, or niberwise to decide what else should be done.
