THERE has lately been unearthed from one of the lumber.rooms of Windsor Castio a beautiful specimen of a sedan chair of Queen Henrietta Maria's, which, it is thought, might fitly serva for the use of the Queen on the historic occasion of the ceremony at St. Paul's. A suggestion is being made, by the way, that a sedan chair would be a suitable present for the Pope to make to the Queen in connection with Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee,

Many of his friends bad charged him with andus persimtim in the remarks which he had made at the half-yearly meeting in October last, and he was afraid that they would be feclined to repeat that assertion, because he could nol express optimistic views when a war was raging In the Levant, a famine and pestilence in Asia, and hostile tariffs in America. The Japanese had recently declared for gold standard, and that action would certainly not tend to enhance the value of silver. The probablilty of a falling exchange in China gul! render t very difficult for Lancashire to export increasingly and profitably to that country. Furthermore, the Chinese Government, welch had now a considerable gold debt, would find the burden thereof more oneroas, and the margin of unappropriated Castom revenu narrower and narrower. The shareholders bad double followed with painful interest the weekly reports of the famine and plague In India, and it must be borne in mind that the same canics which hindereta

The governing idea seems to bave been that the Imperial gaza should encounter nothing which had ever been profaned by the you of the valgar.
