(From Rangoon Papers.) THE PLAGUE IN INDIA,

ALLAHABAD, October 3rd. It seems only too probable that passengers frem Bombay to Europe will have to undergo quarantine on arrival at European poris. The scare as regards the plague will probably be greater on the Continent than that which always occurs when cholers breaks out. It may become

■master of consideration whether the malls may not have to be shipped from Karachi.

BOMBAY, October th. There are signs that the plague is abating, the number of fresh cases reported yesterday being 10, and deaths 6, 41 against 33 fresh cases and people are still leaving the clly. 15 deaths the previous day. Large numbers of

CALCUTTA, October 5th,

It is believed that, owing to the vigorous actions of the authorities, the Bombay pingue is abating. Doring the twenty-four hours ending at to o'clock yesterday moming only ten fresh cases (dx deaths) had occurred. A few showers of rate would probably stamp out the disease. It is estimated that sixty thousand people have left: Bombay since the outbreak.

October 7th.

The plague has 'broken out at Ahmedabad. The symptoms are distinct. Active measures are being taken to prevent the disease spreading. Sheds use belog erected outside the city for the segregation of patients. Ahmedabad has many qualifications favouring the disease. It is densely populated, and the water supply is indifferent.

A Bombay 'yes'erday eighteen deaths took place, and the outlook is more serious, as savezal of the deaths occurred in other parti of the town, The Health Officer is finding great difficulty in getting labourers for cleaning and disinfecting, owing to their fexre of contagion. Dead rati have been discovered in bales of dates from the Persian Gulf, which favours the supposition that these animals are specially susceptible to the disease and very likely spread the plague.

Precautionary measures in Calcatta are belag quietly but vigorously pushed forward. Two hospitals are being constructed in an isolated spot, have been formed for an ambulance corps.
