In the Supreme Court at Singapore, on the 14th inst, Kayenah Mahomed Easope Marican, dubash, sued Lt. Commander Cotesworth, of H.M.S: Railler, for $76, for goods supplied to the men on boardļhis ship. The plaintiff stated that the men had signed for the goods when received in their own name, and after the ship left for Bangkok in 1894 he wrote to Commander Cotes- worth making for his manay. It came out in evidence that the letter was handed to Lieut. Rook, the money collected by Sergeant Copeland, and a draft on the Hongkong and Shanghal Bani posted to the plaintiff. This the plaintiff swore Le never received, and he med Commander Cotesworth for the money. Plalutlif was, of the man that defendant was not personally liable course, nonsulted, the Chief Justice Informing for the price of goods sold to the men on board the Raffler, and that his proper remedy was to find out the man who had fraudulently obtained payment of the draft and are him. The action was dismissed with costs.-Fate Press.

For the last twenty-six ́years the Victoria Entitate has held each successivo annual meet. Ing in the large hall of the Society of Arts, on each occasion chronicling the gradually increas ing extension of its most important work, carried on during the Hfetime of its late president, the late Earl of Shaftesbury, under whose suspens the Institute was founded; and, during the last few years, under his earnest and gifted successor, Sir George' Sinker, Bart., the initial objects, belog steadily kapt in view by its energetić Council, among whom are willl to he found many of thous Barneal workers who first saluted at its foundation. These objects seem never to be forgotten, and at the meeting referred to, two ofthe greatest scientific men of the age, the President and Lord.
