SWATOW NOTES.
{FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
SWATOW, 13th May, 1896. There in little or nothing going on in this small port which is worthy of nota by your readers. Although the number of steamers visiting us seem to be on the facresse, business on the whole is very dull and coolies seem to be the principal expost at present. Competition In this line is growing keener, but I fancy tomebody will bain his fingers beforn lang.
We have been. Tavoured, with saveral 'vlalta from men-of-wir during the last few months including the Aldcity, with the Bellish Admiral en board, but they only make a short stay and away they go, for now the geese and ducks have taken their fight northward, Swalow offers no attractions for them. On the last visit of car old friends the "Pigmylies" we managed to make up a team to meet them at the noble gams of cricket, and beat them, too, thanks to our “Haikwan" veterans.
The plague at your part shows no signs of abating and it was more than we could expect to escape a visit of this dread disease. Although it was rather severe la one of the towDK as river a month age, has only showed Itself bere lately and there have been so for some desen cases, Our only shoemaker has fallen a victim to it.
