She stood secure in the strength of her own resources, and firm in the resolution of her people without respect to party and to the loyalty of her own children from one and of the Empire to the other. The recent resolution sent to the Prime Minister from the Australian colonies and the patriotic enthusiasm in Canada, came to us as a response to the cat. burst of national spirit in the United Kingdom. The outfi required by midshipmen and apprentices is about the same, though the former are usually sent to ser with ridiculously extravagant outfits, most of which they invariably lose in their first voyage. I remember my outfit cost £120, and on my return from my first voyage, which lasted sixteen months, I had only one shabby uniform sult and a very small stock of linen, etc., remaining of the elaborate supply I commenced the voyage with. This state of my wardrobe was not due to wear and tear, but to the indements to spend money at. the different ports wa visited. I started on my second voyage with an outfit that cost £40, and I found it more than sufficient, relaring at the end of a year and only requiring £15 to equip me for my third voyage.

Nowadays, when the great cry is "Wait shall we do with our suns?"
