Sir Charles Topper, Canadian high commis sloner, visited the Colonial Office this afternoon, and in the absence of Lord Ripon spake with Robert Heary Meade, under-secretary, as to the legalization of the Bebring Sea award. AUCKLAND, N. Z., March 30th, The Beamer Alameda axxived her to-day. She brings news of a disturbance in Samoa, the result of the action of the new supreme court judge, ide, is imposing fines upon some chiefs for disorderly conduct, Imprisoning them and compelling them to work on the public roads. The followers of the chiefs rebelled against these Indignities and demanded their release. King Malletos finally sent a body of troops to attack these rebels, and after serious conflicts finally dispersed them, but not until thirty were killed, fifty wounded and a number made prisoners: The govemment last a dozen killed and many wounded.
The king's troops celebrated the victory by mutilating some of the prisoners. Finally they attacked the defenceles villages of their late adversaries and committed frightful atrocities. Houses were burned, women outraged and killed, and dead bodies beheaded and cut in small pieces, the soldiers only desiating when there was notblog left to destroy and nobody left to kill. Meanwhile other chiefs rebelled against the action of Ide and the support gives to bim by Malletos, and the cry of "Death to foreigners I" spread through the islands.
The United States, British and German consule are making every effort to quell the disturbance. The arrival of the warships is awaited with anxiety,
