The Share Market.
SHARE MARKET,
September 7th.
It is extremely satisfactory to learn that,
after a season of appalling depression which has hung over the colony for many months, share business at last shows some signs of Improvement. Were it not for the killing uncertainty of the Silver problem, we should really begin to belleve that the long lane had found Its turning. However, it is at least gratifying to be able to record that some actual business in local stocks has been done, and that leading Unes generally are on the boom.'

To-day Banks have been done at from 95 to 97 per cent. premium, and at the latter rate shares are still wanted. China Traders have changed hands at 51 and 53 per share, closing very firm, and with bayers at the higher rate. For some days past the Douglas Co.'s scrip has been inquired after, and cash sales, have been reported at as high as 37 at which quotation no further shares are obtainable. Docks have been negociated at 66, but further offers to buy at that figure have not been responded to. Hongkong Hotels are in very strong request; two or three· weeks ago this stock was sold at as low as $11 per share, whilst to-day business has dane, and there are additional been buyers, at as high as 21. It is an open secret that the Hotel cleared something like $26,000 on its working account for the half-year ended June 30th; of this $16,000 go to pay interest, and the Directors, very wisely we think, recommend that the balance be writen off as depreciation. There is a gold-mine in the Hongkong Hotel, if the place is only given a fair chance. Punjoms have appreciated considerably owing to recent developments, and shares are now wanted at 86 per share. By this time next year shareholders will very likely be in a position to refuse ten times that amount for their carefully nursed scrip. In Mr. Blamey the Company has at last got a practical working man who knows his business, and who (unlike all the other "experts" who have fattened and waxed rich out of the shareholders' money) is thoroughly reliable and trustworthy. There are good times ahead, and in our opinion not in very far off, both for Raubs and Punjoms. Hongkong Ices have changed hands at 67, and there are further buyers. A few Hongkong Bricks are reported to have been placed at 3. but shares are still on offer at this rate. One small lot of Hongkong Electrics was snapped up at 83, but shares could be placed at that rate. Green Island Cements have been done at $1, and are wanted at the same figure. The next report of this Company is anticipated with great interest in business circles. So it is by the ongkeng Telegraph, we want to see how Poesnacker pans out' as a prophet.
