ing the lightning, when at 9.7 he called out that Mount Keilet was struck, and the stones and tarf flung up as in a blasting. In the evening the children went to the summit and reported that they had found the place where the flash hed struck. This morning we ascended the peak with Meus 6. Gale and Gibbs, and the appearance presented was sufficiently striking to merit

attention

|

|

The flash struck the extrema summit and mapped out its track like a diagram. The point of impact has been ploughed out for space about seven feet square, the turf and woll

farned up to depth of about four inches, and stones and clede flung in avery direction. The flash then seems to have "starred," one branch running East about 16 yards with North and branches about 5 yards long. Thế mala branch passed downwards about 50 yards to the West, and then curved to the South, forming a fairly | sharp right angle, and so passed onwards another 50 yards to the Iron tank just abova Edderton. It struck the East side of the tank and went to cartb.

The track looks as if pigs' bad rooted about, but the sides of the track see thrown up as by

plough. The grass is not burnt, but torn as though by blant scissors. The main branch starts about three feet wide, gradually diminishing to a foot at the tank, which is covered with grasa flung op by the flash. The course is sinuous, with here and there 'short_lateral shoots like twigs, and in one place it has spik Into a loop round a stone. The whole appearance is very remarkable.

At Dr. Cantle's hospital the telephone rang out like pistol shot, and there and in Dei Voeux Villas It was thought the houses were struck.

It is very seldom one has a chance of seeing * Bash of lightning thus mapped out, and as the rains will soon run over the traces, it is well werth while to visit the place at once.
