Our European staff has been sensibly reduced during the second half of last year,
Without entering foto details about employés who are no longer in the service of our company we may say that the salaries, which up to July: 1892, showed a total of $9,500, in December stood only at $7,200, and since that time they have been yet further reduced, as in April, 1893, we only paid $6,300.
We have undoubtedly arrived at the farthest possible limit of economy, and we should expect to see this heading incicased in proportion with our output:
The same will naturally be the cass with our native workmen, whose number will grow as our output increases, and in an inverse propár. tion results partly from the sanitary improve.tton to the skil of the workman and to his con. ments effected in the region, and partly from the attention brought to bear on the delivery of sequent larger outturn, considering his compara medicaments. Before artving at this result, we should point out succinctly what would be the immediate requirements of the mine.
-Increase of the numberal the locomotives, which at the present moment for an output of 15.000 tons per month do such work that we might at any time find the extraction temporarily hindered,
-Increase la the number of the large

ROYALTIES.
The royalties which we pay to the Protectorate have been sepalbly reduced, thanks to the nego tlations of on General Manager. We hope, however, to obtain a still further reduction under this bead.
This royalty is still so centimes per ton, but we should not lose sight of the fact that the maximum paid in France is only 10 centimes.
On the other hand we have to add the "droits de statistique to centimes, and the light and anchorage dues 5 centimes per ton, which girs as a total of 65 centimes, or 19 cents per to Aigure which is still far too high,
COST PRICE.
Thanks to the constantly increasing regularity brought to bear in our different departments, we arrive at a total cost price which shows little variation, and which we consider to be satisfac- Lory.
This price will not diminish mpidly in its chief proportions, but the peculiarly advant ageous conditions of our Hatos découverts enable as nevertheless to hope for a reduction, which we shall reach when the number of
