In the Commons to day Sir Thomae Esmonde, anti-Parnellite, exlied the attention of the House to a speech made by Viscount Wolmer, a Liberal-Unionist, in St. James's Hall, in which he declared that the Irish members subsisted on contribut ens made by the Gladstone caucus, Esmonde objected to this. Welmer admitted that he had gone too far, hat believed that he would be justified a saying that some of those furthering the frish home-rule bill supported the needy Irish members.
Sexton characterized the statement us as invention, and demanded that the Speaker enfo ce an ap-logy. The Speaker, however, declined to Interfe e, as the statement was made antile of the House. Sexton said Wolmer's statement had been used by the Times ne-a basis to hean calumnies on the Irish members, spying that Gladstone's majority w uld be wiped out if the Irih mercenaries did not receive stipends from the Liberal party fund or the private liberal ty of rich English partisans
