The battle-field of Gettysburg is of the highest bistorical Interest. It was the great battle of the Civil War in the United States, and was the Waterloo of the Confederacy. More soldiers took part in it, and more were slain than in any. other battle in modern times. The town is beautiful spot and reminds one of Kent er Devon, The battle field is 10 covered with statues and monuments as to be a wilderness of marble, The best sculptors of Europe and America ars represented in their finest efforts, There are several good hotels, whose charges are reason- able, and there are very good guides. It is a popular resort and in the summer season is visited daily by thousands from all parts of the world. Any sumber of martial relles are exposed for sale, but the prettiest souvenirs of Gettysburg are bunches of heather and shamrock planted in honor of Scotch and Irish soldiers.
