In the course of the voyage of one of the popular E. and A. Co.'s boats, which recently arrived in port, a lady passenger had a gold watch stolen. The matter was duly reported to the captiln who with characteristic promptitude had the crew "reined" up before him. His address was brief and to the point and the time given for the return of the mining "licker" was extended to o'clock on the following morning. Awakening some time before the hour mentioned the eyes of the fair owner were gratified by the sight of the supposed gone-for-ever jewel. It had been quietly returned during the night. Were the prompt and energetic action of this gallant eld Viking more generally followed by "skippers," thieving on the high seas would receive a well merited check.
