Club gave the first of a series of smoking On Saturday night the members of the City concerts which are to be held regularly every month, at the Club rooms in Icehouse Street, The chair was taken by Mr. W. M. B. Arthur, and there was a very large attendance of mem bers and friends, who greatly enjoyed the music. and "other things,"
The concert opened with a mandolin serenata by Mr. Houghton, ably sssisted at the piano by Mr. Whitefield. Each was excellent, but between the two instruments there was a marked differ ence of opini na to the pitch. Mr. Fexcroft next gave a very fair rendering of "The Powder Monkey, supported in the chorus by the whole audience, after which Mr. G. Sonia detaffed the amusing adventures of "Old Potts, and Young Potts, and middle-aged Potts as well," eliciting roars of laughter and strenuous demands for some more; but as Me South had promised to appear during the evening in Mr. Freest's entertainment at the City Hall, an encore was out of the ques ton. Mr. McDonald sang a new and very taking song entitled "The Sailor's Dance," in the Bridge with dramaila effect-more effect splendid vnice. Mr. Tennant warbled "Across than warble, in facts and the amllance applauded vociferously. This was followed by "The Coster's Serenade," En Mr. Robinson's purest Whitechapel style, one of the greatest re-call. Mr. Altona gave, a zither solc, hich hits of the evening and resulted in an undeniable
