In a speech he compli mented the Bank Football Club on the fact that they had, with one excepifon, won all their matches this reason. He then proceeded with the programme. An excellent concert was provided,, and reflected great credit on the organisers. The efforts of Meurs, T. S. Cockburn, W. M. Blackle, Will E. Edwards, Wm. I his recently published book, Sir Henry Parkes, ex-Fremier of New South Wales, gives the following reasons for excluding Chines from the Australasian colonies It is motel, any other inferior nationally, is a disturbing because the influx of Chinese, or of persons of cause to social peace and contentment, that it should not be tolerated. No advantage to em- ployers, no cparenlesce to a limited number of citizens, can compensate for loosening the consanguineous ties which bind stare together. If we may speak of statesman- ship, there is yet another, and a higher ground of objection. In founding a free State whom we are not prepared to admit to all our no nailonally or class should be considered franchises, all our fights of property, all our privileges of citizenship, all our social usages and fresia, not excluding intermantage. The C-n-existence of a servile or degraded class is incompatible with the unfo possession of national Uberty."
