The Coney Island Athlene Club, the Olympic Athletic Club and the California Athletic Club will give twice the amount the National and Bolingbroke Clubs offer. The latest news from the Black Mountain states that General Preyman's brigade and all arillery, consisting it is believed of 24 guns, are now at Patosl on the right bank of the Indus. They march to night to Dillius, n scent of about 1,000 fett, and attack Balo at daybreak, General Hammond's brigade, with two days provisions, crosses the Indus to-day and makes
way, tia Karor, to Munja Kot, 2,700 feet high, abour's miles an the crow files from Balo,
Captain Masco, R. V., reconnaitred up to Manja Kat yesterday. The villagers ran away but some returned There was no firing but no Information cou'd be ellcited from the villagers.
So far as is known the Bonerwals have no in. tention of jolning with the tribes.
October 6th. The Black Mountain expedition is practically over, General Pretyman's Brigade reached Bale this morning at half-past seven and found the place absolutely empty, all the inhabitants having fled. The troops are now blowing up the towers and destroying the stronghold and will retire on Palost in the evening. General Hammond's Brigade reached Manja Kot without meeting any enemy. This result must be con- sidered satisfactory as it shows the tribes are folly aware of our power, and their completa submission ladicates their desertion of Hribim All's cause. It proves, too, that the former expeditions have had a good effect, Balo they have always considered impregnable and its destruction with the loss of their crops will be severely felt. Probably two or three other villages in the neighlenthood will also be destroyed. 1.
VICTORIA (B. C.), September 26th. News was received last night by a sealing schooner from the north that the steamer Danube had gone ashore at Aleut bay. The schooner was tacking in toward the shore and the Danube backed to give her room. A strong tide running at the time caught the steamer and washed her ashore. LONDON October 7th
News of the disaster was received at 5 p.m., Ed 6pm the steamer Princess Louise was dispatched to aid the injured vessel and bring down the crew.
The Darude will probably break up, as the weather is bad.
The Russian schooner Loom arrived yesterday twenty-two days from_Petropaulovski, Siberia, bringing late advices. Two more British scaling schooneis, owned at Victoria, B. C., were seized and taken to Petropaulovski a few days before the Leon salled. They were the Maria, Captain Balkani, seized by the Russian cruises Zablaka, and the Carmelita, seized by the Russian cutter Filias. Both schooners were taken in the viciauty of Copper Island and the vessels, and their combined extch of about 2800 skins, were confiscated. The crews of the Maria and Carmelite were roaming around the streets of
Petropaulovski when the Leon sailed, but it had been decided to send them by steamer te Yokohama, from which point the British Consul would see that they got passage on a steamer bound to Vittoria, B.C. Several Victorla
schooners have been missing for a couple of
months and the fate of the two named, which
were among the number, leaves linie room for
doubt as to what has become of the others.

The sixth ordinary general meeting of the shareholders of the above Company was held at the Exchange Rooms, Singapore, on October 15th, Mr. J. P. Joaquim being in the Chair. There were also present Messrs. Helm, J. Anderson and Th. Sobst, (directors), Messrs. Pentie, N. P. Joaquim, S. Joaquim, G. A. Derrick, H. D'Almeida, D. Ross Smith, E, Nathan, Dr. Koehn, J. The Times by-the-bye ls to be con- gratulated on Mr. Kipling's letters; they are the best reading its victima have had slace it lost its head and character in the Irish bog. If Mr. Buckle would reduce his Dablin correspond- ent to a quarter of a column a day, resume bis former sanlly (64. national opposition) to bis lenders, and fill his paper more with that high- class literature of travel, criticism, &c, which used to be so characteristic of the Times be would confer a boon on his readers and restore" the prestige of the Jupiter. Of Mr. Kipling's views we will say nothing, but every one must admire the splendid virility of bis style, and the fine Independence of his opinions; every line" shows an honest determination to ren things for himself, and he 'slings about' his terin racy, English as well as ever.
There is a report up here that Mr. Von- Hanneken bas terminated his long-standing engagement with the Viceroy; If true, it is to be deplored from every point of view, The Viceroy will lose a servant whose energy and capacity for hard work are only surpassed by the ability and thoroughness he has brought to bear on everything he has undertaken. Among the experts who have seen, the fortifications of Port Arthur and Welhalwel there is but one opinion of their high excellence. His brilliant rotoltu have been accomplished, ne these behind the scenes know, with the smallest resources and in face of an administrative opposition and jealousy which would have appalled most men. The communlly of Tientsin will lose in Mr. Von Hanneken a neighbour who has ever been a capital "sport," and who embodies all that is im piled in the words "thorough

The eternal difficulty of finding a principle on which to handicap was most marked in this occasion, and for once wisdom has not been justified in her children, the handicappers. The losers had to owe "half of thirty the audit of the result showed they could not have won on level terms. At a public meeting there was a well young deserved vote of thanks carried by acclamation innovation of last season in admittfog and to the outgoing committee for their brilliant teaching the boys,—the most pleasing feature of this vote was that it was proposed, seconded, and carried by gratified parents. The existence of Gordon Hall is now partly justified; it makes a capital gymnasium, and the society passed a for its use. bearly vote of thanks to the. Municipal Couned!

The withdrawal of all the other transconti. nental lines is anticipated before October ist. as that will be the limit when the ninety days notice is required, to be effective on January at

Mr. N. P. Joaquim :-You, must consider this Is a Trading Company,
The Chairman-Your directors are quite in accord with Mr. Sobst. We cannot be too exreful in establishing the Company on a good cent for the hall
basis.
The resolation to pay 10 per year was then passed,
Mr. Sobat said he had another proposition atmilar to the one he made at the last meeting, vis, that an extra remuneration be paid the Directors: They had to wark very hard at the reports, most of which were in writing and had to be carefully considered, and the fess prescribed by the Anicles of Association were hardly suficient. He preposed that the Directors receive an extra sum of $1,000 for the past half year, to be equally divided among them..
had every time to vote this extra "baksheesh" Mr. Festile seconded, but suggested, as they to the Directors, it might be carent, er
alter the of to permit, after a certain rate of dividend bad been paid, so much extra being paid to the Directors,
The Chairmen tild Mr. Patile's remarks were very pertinent, and next meeting there might be a resolution to propose on the subject,
On the proportion being put to, the meeting it was carried with two dissentiente, Mr. Jožň Fraser and Dr. Koche,
The Chairman expressed the thanks of the Directors, and hoped next meeting they would have a still better account to give of the COMPEDY
