THE ACCIDENT TO MR. WHITEREAD.
Mr. Whitehead is, we are pleased to learn, almost completely recovered. Ho may be slightly marked for life, but he is not a man who studies personal beauty as much as lots of people in Hongkong, and he will not mind. There is nothing serious in the accident, and really there was nothing at all to make a fuss about. If he had been badly hurt, it would have been a public misfortune to the Colony, and he is to be congratulated on what didn't happen.

Now the Jary must assume that the police bad searched for that knife, yet no knife had been found. It would be a very bold murderer who would look for that knife afterwards; and they might reason ably assume that the polics in the exercise of their duty hid watched the place where the dead body was found, and they might also assume that the police had gone over the ground on the first possible opportunity. Why did not SeethaRim tell the police at once about the murder? If he was frightened because of Emin Deen's threat, he would have got pilice protection, and more than that Emin Deen would have been at once arrested.
