The principal burden fall, of course, on Serpolatie (Miss Ciasto Denver); and, as we anticipated, she maintained the part to the life. Following immediately on Madame Angot even more qafairly burdened by the author, this must have been a severe strain; but it proved that her forts is hard work, lively acting, vigorous display of varied moods, and delicate; mutations of rubilé passions. Miss Denver's vocal powers were taxed somewhat less severely than on Thunday, but none the less was her triumph over the audience. Germaine, the role fitting her like a glove. Her Miss Dolly Chlids rasde a gentle, unassuming excellent rendering of it only made one regret that the author did not give her more scope. A surprises) wat Greicher, usually a tenor part, charming surprise (the "Awfuls "seem great en and assigned on this occasion to Mr. Phillips i that gentleman being afflicted with a cold, Miss De Lorme took his place, and without discredit to him we must say the alteration was a VAR! improvement. To bear her clag "On Rocking Waves* in the first act, and the duct with Gaspard in the second, was simply delightful. Cartup (Mias D. Silvia) is a small part, but was rendered in a style which revealed the accomplished actress.
On the other side, Mr. T. Liddiard satisfactorily acquitted | himself as the "Marklang" Alu singing is always good, and bis acting fair and conscien tous. Mr. Driscoll was quite out of his line as Gaspard, but not a soul in" the sadience would have suspected it, which makes his exposition of the part more remarkable. He was decidedly brilliant throughout, contri- buting a very large share to the success of the evening. Mr. Durich also deserved warm praise as the Bailie, for he showed that he bas readily adapted himself to this unfamiliar line of work, and will make his mark before long. As Gobo Mr. W. Stanley did less than was expected of him.
Of course, It must not be expected that there invariably experienced by travelling companies was no fauli to be found at all; the difficulties
were increased by the fact that several membera were until last night total strangers to their parts. But thanks to the ability of the company all round, these futle bitches were not very performance noticeable, and on the whole the
as better than might have been anticipated. Special praise is due to the ladies for the May pale Dance" in the first act, and the very pretty ballet in the last.
To-night the theatre will be crowded, for the ever popular drama "Colleen Bawn" is billed, with the veteran "Old Man Awful" as Miles and Miss Denver as the Colleen. This piece suits the company far better than several they | have put on the stage, and they may be relled on to do their best and to justify the large patronage which is already assured.
A fresh programme has been arranged for next week, of which full particular will be found in our advertisement colunins,
