TWO STEAMERS LOST.
THE "HAITHÒNG."
A telegram was received at the office of Messrs Douglas Laprak & Co. this morning from the agent in Yokohama is follows:-
"The Haiphong is nahorn at Shimoda, and 's fall of water; will telegraph further. particulars Ister."
The Haiphong left here on the rath Inst. for Takao, where she loaded a full Curgo of
niger for Yokohama, Shimoda promontory at the casterd, extremity of the Idra peninsula, which fots out south-west of the entrance, to the Gulf of Tokio, where Yokohama Hes. Rock Island light is not far from Shimoda, and there must have been a thick fog at the time, unicus the ship wan navigated absolutely without anybody on deck.
The Telegram leaves it to be implied that no life was lost, and as of course the vessel was fully insured, the disaster is not so bad as it might have bech. None of the cargo can be raved, and at apparently the vessel is i perfectly open place, on a rocky shore exposed to the full force of the Pacific swell, there seems to be some danger that she will be a total wreck, The officers of the Haiphong as far as can be gathered, were Capt. W. Y. Hocter, chief officer L. R. James, chlfeuginter J. D. Edwards, and A. F. Ramsay. The vessel was about six years old, and was well found in every respect.
THE "HSINSHENO". Telegraphic information was, we are informed, received this morning stating that the Chinx Merchants' steamship Heinsheng is very badly sabore near Chefon, and expected to become a total wreck.
Information is very meagre as to this vessel, as we regret to say is customary in all matters connected with the great Chios Merchants Co. The Hsinikeng is quite a new boat, and it is only about two months since a full descrip tion of her was published on her arrival from home. She would apparently be on or about her Dual run, and it would stem that the log season in the Gulf of Pechill is not yet closed:
We do not remember say Hsin-changi
ένα new ship's came out lately, the Hsin chi and Hainfung; the Intles, which is the newest of the feet, la commanded by Capt. Warwick, and is of 1,062 tons burden.
The agents here, of course, say they know nothing about It

NEWS OF THE WORLD.
PARIS, May 30lb. Baron Hirsch is seriously ill in this city with influenza and congestion of the lungs. The gravest fears are expressed as to the result of his Ülness. The death of Baron Hirsch would have a serious effect upon bis great enterprises, including the sellel of the Rusulan Jews by their settlement in other countrier.
It is said that Baron Hirsch has devoted him self to this supreme object of his life with such earnestness as to greatly weaken his physical system and that this his had much to do in bringing about his illness. The Baton has been much disappointed by the comparative failure of his attempt to establish an Argentine colony of Jews, and also by the unfavorable reception of Indigent Hebrews in the United States.
Toe.serious liness of the Baron raises the
question whether his horse Lafiche, whose winnings are given chiefly to charity, will run in the Derby on Wednesday, for which the horse is a favorite. Should he die, the entry would presumably be canceled, Tate to-night it was stated that the Baron had slightly improved, though he is not yet out of danger.
