February 17th. When one discovers a place of interest, he ought to tell of it so that others may have an opportunity of seeing it too. I wish, therefore, to call the attention of any who desire to see the paints of interest around Chinklang, to the Ningpo Hulkuan or Guild at Ta'ibaok'eo, a little village on the north bank of the river directly opposite the Chinklang bund. A friend and I went over to this village last Saturday, and accidentally found our way into thi guild. It is small bullding, but the most beautiful I have seen since coming to China. The Ningpo men, as all know, are skilful carvers and in this building may be seen some of their best work. The walls are tastefully decorated with unusually well palated aquatic and bost scenes, while the ceiling and shrines are of the most gorgeous red and gilt facquered work. Everything looked so fresh and clean that I waS strongly reminded of the temples of the Shoguns In Japan. I think any one will feel richly repald by a visit to it. As it is not a temple, but a guild, the door is open only on certain days. Still, the gatekeeper lives near by, and doubtless a little politeness, helped along by & few-cash, would gain admittance at any time.

Instance the following. Mr. Babel, engaged in the R. R. Department, bad occasion to be dissatisfied with his Siamese coolle, and accordingly dismissed him. The coolle im- mediately returned to Bangkok, and represented to the servant of his former master that pro visions, underclothes, hoss, overcoat &c. were urgently needed by Mr. Babel. He was supplied chew... with all he required, and it is needless to say, employed them for his own personal use. On leaming the wily trick of his former coolle, Mr. Babel at once reported the Major-General of Bangkok peons. This doughty with apparent attention, though probably his mind was running on weightler maiters such as flattering reports die for he gave the stereotyped advice search the pawnshops. He even in proved on this sage advice, by adding--and arrest the culprit.
