BILL

To regulate the immigration of Chinese into the United States. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 3 That any contract or agreement to procure aid or encourage 4 the importation or immigration of Chinese into the United 5 States shall be null and void, and any person entering into

6 any such contract or agreement, shall be deemed guilty of a

7 misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in a

8

sum not less than five hundred dollars, and imprisoned not

9 less than six months, or both, at the discretion of the court.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That any contract

or agreement to employ or to furnish employment to any

3 Chinaman, or as to the nature or term of his service, or as to

4 the amount or use of his wages prior to his immigration into

5 the United States shall be null and void, and any person

6 entering into such contract or agreement, shall be subject to
